About the project
The Latmos mountains, today called Beshparmak, in western Turkey exhibit a wide range of prehistoric rock paintings; since 1994, these have been researched and documented by Dr. Anneliese Peschlow-Bindokat. The paintings are dated to the 6th-5th millennium BCE and are unique to this region. They emphasise the human being as part of a community with special attention to the relationship between men and women.
In 2003, the results of this extensive research were presented in the form of a large touring exhibition, which travelled to Germany, Italy, and Turkey. Today, the exhibition is permanently installed within the birth region of the rock paintings in Mugla, Turkey.
In order to continue the presentation of this material to an international audience, a website project was initiated in 2009, based on the structure of the exhibition.
Due to the large amount of photographs provided by Dr. Peschlow, a form of display was needed that would emphasize the pictures, while at the same time retain clarity within the website’s structure and inform the reader on the greater topic.
